Training & Education

At RIS Healthcare we believe that with education and training, Oral Care and Oral Health can be greatly improved across all spectrums of the healthcare environment.

With a greater focus within healthcare on Oral Health and the related conditions caused by the lack of this, our training provides you with the knowledge of how to improve oral care. The training covers all aspects of Oral Care including which best practices to use, what techniques work and how they work, and how to ensure that oral care is continually given and improved.

Prior to your training we will send you out a Training Pack which includes an overview of what our training consists of, who our trainers are and a pre-training questionnaire. This allows us to effectively deliver the appropriate training for your specific needs.

All our training can be adapted to meet your own requirements. Whether it be just an overview on Oral care, Oral Care in a Palliative Setting, Oral Care and Aspiration Pneumonia or Oral Care in Care Homes we can tailor-make our training to suit your needs. If there is anything specific that you wish to be covered in a session, for instance Oral Mucositis or Oral Care in Cancer Treatment, then our training can be adapted to include this.

All our training sessions are delivered by specialist and fully qualified trainers with many years of experience in Oral Health and Oral Care. Our training is completely impartial, non-product focused, free-of-charge, and is based around Oral Care and Oral Health. All of our training can be used for CPD hours and is CPD accredited.

We constantly evaluate and review all of our training which ensures that we continually improve our sessions to give the very best education in Oral Care.

We currently provide training to a vast number of NHS Trusts, Care Homes and Charities including Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, Sue Ryder, Marie Curie and The Orchard Group.

Please see below some feedback that we have recently received from our training sessions:

“We didn’t want the session to end. The trainer was fab”

I have been a working as an End of life care Facilitator in Salford for the last 3 years supporting residential and nursing homes in their deliverance of end of life care. We first meet the RIS team at a conference in Manchester. It became apparent that there was no access for health care professionals to receive training and support in relation to oral health care we then asked the RIS team to support us inducting our Nurses and Carer’s as part of our training programme. Since the introduction of RIS training in the Six Steps End of life care education programme, we could see an increase in the knowledge, skill and confidence that the care home staff possess. However we felt that oral health care training should be offered to more than just the End of life care champions. The RIS team along with members of the MDT formulated a working group to increase the knowledge and skills of every health care professional in the Salford Care homes. The RIS team have supported the Trust to create a resource file and training package for the Nurses and carer’s in the Salford care homes. This is now being adapted for the Hospital setting as they too can see the impact this has had in the care home setting and its value to improving oral health care in Salford. The training has been very well received by the staff; the teaching style of all the trainers is of a high standard and the written evaluations from the training session have been excellent. This has also been reflected in the good oral care being delivered in the care homes and the decrease in the number of complaints related to poor oral hygiene.

The RIS team have changed Oral health care in Salford. We, the residents of Salford and future residents will be forever grateful to the RIS team
